Terms of Service

The agreement between you and Penworth for using store.penworth.ai. Plain English, no dark patterns.

Effective 17 April 2026

1. Who we are

Penworth Store is operated by Penworth AI (A.C.N. 675 668 710 PTY LTD), an Australian company registered in South Australia (“Penworth,” “we,” “us”). When you use store.penworth.ai you are entering this agreement with Penworth AI.

2. Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. You can delete your account any time at /account/delete.

3. What you buy — reader terms

When you buy a book, you receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to read or listen to that book on Penworth Store for as long as your account exists. You do not receive ownership of the work. You may not redistribute, resell, or publicly perform the work. You may make personal backup copies within what copyright law permits.

Subscriptions (Plus, Premium) grant access to a catalogue of participating books while the subscription is active. If your subscription ends, catalogue access ends; books you purchased outright remain yours.

4. Refunds

Purchases are refundable within 48 hours of purchase if you have read or listened to less than 20% of the work. Refunds are issued to the original payment method via Stripe within 5–10 business days. Subscriptions can be cancelled any time; the current billing period runs to its paid-through date.

5. What you publish — author terms

If you publish a book to Penworth Store, you grant Penworth a non-exclusive worldwide licence to distribute your book through store.penworth.ai and its apps. You keep copyright. You can unpublish any book at any time. We never enroll you in exclusivity.

You warrant that the work is yours to publish and does not infringe on any third party’s copyright, trademark, publicity, or privacy rights. You are responsible for any third-party content, quotes, images, or voices in your work.

6. Royalties

Royalty terms are defined in our Royalty Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In summary: 75% to authors on every ebook sale, 45% on every audiobook sale, paid monthly on the 15th via Wise.

7. Content we will not host

Some things never belong on the store:

  • Child sexual exploitation material (we report to authorities and permanently ban).
  • Credible threats of violence or doxxing.
  • Infringement of another person’s copyright.
  • Content designed to defraud readers (fake review schemes, plagiarised work passed off as original).
  • Content that incites terrorism or mass violence.

We may remove content for these reasons without refund to the author. We publish transparency reports quarterly showing what was removed and why, in aggregate.

8. AI-generated content

AI-assisted authorship is welcome. You must own or have rights to any AI outputs you publish. You must not publish content that is meaningfully identical to another author’s work. Books produced through the Penworth pipeline have additional provenance requirements detailed during submission.

9. Payments

Reader purchases are processed by Stripe; by buying you agree to Stripe’s Services Agreement (stripe.com/legal/ssa). Author royalty payouts are processed by Wise; by accepting a payout you agree to Wise’s terms (wise.com/terms-and-conditions). Currency is USD. Regional taxes are calculated at checkout where applicable.

10. Our store terms

Authors set their own price within published floors and ceilings. Authors are not required to be exclusive to Penworth. The royalty percentages above are contractual and reported quarterly on our transparency page. Reading and listening surfaces carry no advertisements. Reader identity is kept private from authors and third parties; we do not share, sell, or rent reader personal data.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms. Substantive changes are emailed to all registered users at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance.

12. Disputes

This agreement is governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Disputes are resolved in the courts of South Australia unless consumer-protection law in your country gives you additional rights.
